The NFHS and Dissinger Reed have specifically designed an insurance plan to cover officials and all registered member associations. Plan details are as follows:

WHAT ARE MY INSURANCE BENEFITS AS A NFHS OFFICIAL?

As a member of the National Federation of High Schools Officials Association, you are provided with an insurance package that includes: General Liability, Accident Medical and Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance. This insurance package is provided to you as part of your membership dues. There is no additional fee.

WHAT OFFICIALS ARE COVERED?
  • All officials currently registered with a member state association, or with an affiliate of the NFHS (if that association registers officials and if that association registers for NFHS insurance benefits)
  • State and local officials’ associations who have 100% membership in the NFHS Officials Association
  • Assignors, instructors and rule interpreters who are currently registered with the NFOA are covered under the Liability Policy for claims involving bodily injury and property damage. There is no coverage under the Liability Policy for any other type of claim.
WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE COVERED?
  • Insurance coverage applies while the member is performing his/her officiating duties during a regularly scheduled sports or activity competition.
  • The sport or activity must be recognized in that state by the member state high school association or by high schools that follow the state association guidelines.
  • If the sport is recognized by the state high school association for men or women, the official will be covered for officiating that sport for both men and women.
  • Officiating duties include chain crews and attending officiating camps, clinics and meetings.
  • Coverage for officials extends, not only to high school activities but also to college, independent youth, adult and recreational leagues. However, coverage is still limited only to sports recognized by the state high school association.
  • Accident medical coverage only for direct travel to and from a covered activity. No general liability coverage.

WHAT ARE MY INSURANCE BENEFITS AS A NFHS COACH?:

As a member of the National Federation of High Schools Coaches Association, you are provided with an insurance package that includes, General Liability, Accident Medical and Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance. This insurance package is provided to you as part of your membership dues. There is no additional fee.

WHAT COACHES ARE COVERED?
  • Individual coaches who are members of the NHFS Coaches Association
WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE COVERED?
  • Insurance applies only for losses or claims resulting from the coaching or instructing of organized sport or activity programs or coaching individuals on your team. There is no coverage for the organization, operation or sponsorship of camps and clinics or tournaments; nor does it extend to the participants of such events.
  • Coaching or instruction must take place in the US where a sport or activity is recognized by the member state high school association or by high schools that follow the state association guidelines.
  • If the sport is recognized by the state high school association for men or women, the coach will be covered for coaching that sport for both men and women.
  • Coverage applies to strength and conditioning coaches, but only if the coach is employed by a member school of a state high school association. The athletes must be students at the school and participate in a sport that is recognized by the high school association.
  • No coverage for individual travel.

NFHS Spirit Coaches PLEASE NOTE:

General Liability and Accident Medical insurance Coverage will be extended to NFHS Spirit Coaches only while participating in activities sponsored and approved by the school which employs or contracts with the NFHS Spirit Coaches. No coverage will be afforded to the NFHS Spirit Coaches for outside competitions, all-star events or activities that are not recognized by the participating school.

DIRECTORS & OFFICERS

Dissinger Reed and the NFHS have a wide variety of insurance options made available to you and your association. For those who wish to purchase Directors & Officers Insurance, Dissinger Reed has developed a Supplemental Insurance Program for NFHS member associations. Directors and Officers Liability provides protection for claims arising out of allegations of errors, omissions or wrongful acts committed by its directors, officers, employees or volunteers. This coverage will respond to allegations of discrimination against a third party, acts beyond granted authority, failure to deliver services, wrongful dismissal, and wrongful employment practices. Defense costs are paid in addition to the limit of liability.

Directors & Officers Insurance does not provide coverage for lawsuits involving bodily injury or property damage. These types of claims can be covered under the association’s General Liability policy.

NOTE: This coverage is written on a “claims-made basis.” All claims under this policy must be reported to the insurance company within the policy term. If your association is a for-profit entity, your association is not eligible for coverage under this program.

Crime Insurance

Crime Insurance provides protection for NFHS Member Associations against financial loss caused by the dishonest disappearance of money, securities or negotiable instruments. This Crime Insurance Plan includes coverage for loss by theft or forgery by an officer or volunteer.

Examples of covered losses under this plan are the loss or dishonest disappearance of: moneys or securities in the league treasury; moneys collected from fund raising activities; or moneys set aside for the purchase of uniforms and equipment.

Employee Dishonesty: $25,000 per loss
Theft (inside/ outside): $10,000 per loss
Depositor’s Forgery Coverage: $10,000 per loss
Computer Theft Coverage: Not Covered
Deductible: $250 per claim

No, you must purchase the camp/clinic/tournament coverage.
